Ships Window Tree House

The artist Robert Wyland said; “The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination and brings eternal joy to the soul.” The same could be said for a treehouse. Even though you can’t smell the sea when you open this ship’s portholes, you can feel the wind and almost touch the tree growing through the deck. This treehouse was built above sea level for adventure with a breathtaking view of a sea of treetops below. For the inhabitants of this ships window treehouses, it’s always high tide.

The treehouse was purposely built close to the main house. The color was an exact match to the home’s exterior. The clean lines, 4 framed windows and two porthole windows add plenty of light and a cottage appeal.
The spiral staircase gives the simplistic structure a twirl of sophistication.
The original term for a spiral staircase was cochlea—Latin for snail shell. This design originated in ancient Greece over 3,000 years ago. This staircase was crafted by hand on site and the steps are poured stained concrete. We’re sure the ancient Greeks would be proud.
We installed heavy-duty 16” diameter brass portholes with ½ inch tempered glass and rubber gaskets for an airtight fit. Each weighing 24 hefty pounds.  “Captain, a giant tree out the starboard side window.” Ahoy, we’ve reached Treasure Island!
Details, details, details. Brass ball pole cap matches the brass porthole perfectly. The staircase and deck railings were all custom made of wrought iron in the client’s backyard. The client was involved with the look and design. Right down to the curlycue features.
The angled deck boards and linear custom railing add an interesting geometric contradiction. The weather resistant trim boards around the deck run flush to the top of the decking creating an elegant clean edge. Oh, you can also see the yard through the heavy-duty glass front door.
A perfectly square house and a perfectly square deck perched on a perfectly meandering tree. Mic drop!
